| Wells Gray Park is a huge wilderness area of
some half million hectares offering something of delight and interest to
all nature lovers and outdoors people.
Some two hundred bird species, fifty mammal species and hundreds of
species of plants and trees offer exceptional study and observation
possibilities.
Mountains, canyons, lava flows, waterfalls and lakes, alpine meadows
and a virtually untouched and unexplored hinterland offer a wonderful
retreat from the noise and bustle of daily life. |

Recreational Opportunities in and around the
park are many and varied as visitors care to make them.
To a large degree the seasons determine the types of activity over
the year. Winter brings out the cross country, back country and high
country skiers, the snow shoers and dog sledders and those who find joy
in the profound stillness of the forest in snow. Summer offers
hikers and bikers the trails, while the lakes and rivers call to the
canoeists, kayakers and rafters among us. |
| In both July and August a park naturalist gives
presentations on natural history topics and guides groups on interpretive
hikes.
Birders and botanists tend to pick their own seasons while
photographers, writers and painters find inspiration throughout the
year. Fall is particularly beautiful in the mixed forest.
The area offers so much over such a broad loom, that there is truly
something to suit everyone's interests and activities, whether expert or
novice. |
